Masters of Language, Masters of Prompting?
New Opportunities for Language Specialists in the Age of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence is transforming how language is produced, analyzed, and used across research, industry, and education. Large language models rely on human language input, making prompting a new form of linguistic competence. Effective prompts require clarity, structure, contextual awareness, and semantic precision—skills that language specialists already possess. This shift creates new opportunities for linguists, translators, and language professionals to shape how AI systems generate and interpret language. Human specialists act not only as users of AI but as architects of interaction between humans and intelligent systems and this collaboration expands the role of language professionals from producing texts to orchestrating language-based processes. It also highlights the importance of linguistic awareness in ensuring quality, reliability, and ethical use of AI-generated language. The misconception that translation and translators have little or even no future needs to be challenged and this example will be a part of this demonstration.
